Flowers from Mimi's

Jeff was sweet enough to transplant some of my favorite flowers from Mimi's house before it was sold this month.  It made my day to come home and find flowers in my yard to remind me of her.

Buggs Island

Jeff, his dad, and a couple of friends went on their annual fishing trip to Bugg's Island last week.  The cabin looked nice and cozy and I know between the fishing and the beer the guys all had a great time.

They caught enough large mouth bass to fry them up while they were down there and still bring some home.  The large fish got thrown back and only the smaller ones were eaten, which helps out the bass population as well.

Last night (5/9) I my first fresh large mouth fish fry courtesy of the boys.  Jeff brought back some fillets that we froze until we were ready to try them last night.  And, the verdict is that the fish was very tasty and Jeff knows exactly what he's doing frying them up!  We made some homemade hush puppies as well, but he tells me that the House Autry hushpuppy onion mix is much better (we couldn't find any).  So, next time we will make those instead.  We also had corn on the cob and cole slaw...YUM!

First softball game

Emily had her first softball game on Saturday.  She was super excited to play and did a really good job!  She played left center outfield and other than looking at butterflies once (not much action out there!), she stayed in the game :)

The best moment of the game was Emily's first at bat.  She made contact and had a few foul balls, but then got walked.  However, she didn't know what that meant and lined back up ready to hit again...pretty darn cute that she had to be told to run to first base.  At that point, she hustled on over:)  She ended up making her way around the bases and scoring her first run during that inning.

Her next at bat she got a hit and made it to first base and scored her first RBI!  Even though they ended up losing to Fort, they learned a lot and played well.

Ready!

Garden Phase 1

This is what a lot of Spring Break consisted of....running from one garden center or nursery to another so that we could compare what was in stock and prices, running to Lowe's for more supplies, and then working on the garden.  It was a lot of fun once the planning was complete and the planting began.

We planted squash, zucchini and some spinach by seed and started them indoors.  They've just begun sprouting!  Outside, we put carrots and snap peas in by seed and planted strawberries, chard, spinach, broccoli, and cauliflower.  Tomato plants and beans will go in later with the seeds we started indoors.
One of my favorite purchases was  3-in-1 blueberry bush!  It should pollinate itself and produce blueberries all season long.  I can not wait!

Easter 2015

Jeff and I started the morning at Sarah and Michael's to watch Emily open her basket from the Easter Bunny.  Afterwards, we had lunch at our house with my parents, brother, and the girls.  We made Hay Hay and Emily each a scavenger hunt with clues hidden in eggs throughout the house.  They each found a matching nightgowns and then one last clue that led them to a glow in the dark tent. :)

We had a yummy lunch (turkey, mashed potatoes, deviled eggs, green beans and rolls) and I made a bunny cake for dessert.  The girls had fun calling Grandma "Granny" and opening up their easter baskets from Grandma and PaPa.

Getting Ready for Easter

Emily, Jeff, and I dyed easter eggs this week.  Emily said she couldn't remember doing it in the past, so I think she enjoyed making them, especially the one that she made multicolored.  We topped them off with some stickers before putting them in the fridge to eat later in the week.

I grabbed Emily early from school on Friday so that she could come to activity period with me.  While we had the kids working on a mural she started painting easter cards.  We didn't have a lot of time, but she did a fantastic job on this one!
