Emerald Isle 2017- Days 6-9

This is the time when the week starts to fly by and we all try to soak in as much as we can of what is left!  Jeff found a tiny hermit crab while we were looking for seashells on the beach!  It was so, so tiny that I don't even know how he found it.

We also found a "jackpot" area down the beach where we could go out in the water and find olives.  This area was right off a of a sandbar where the girls could go out and only be up to their ankles.  They LOVED this spot where they could sit or swim around like being in a pool.  We loved being able to find awesome shells and see our new buddy, "Scottie the Stingray."  Scottie was a small skate that stayed in this area for days and was super easy to see.  It was neat to be able to sand in the water and watch him swim up.  The girls and I had never seen one in the water before!

We also made some friends-- The girls met Elizabeth from New Jersey and got to play with her for a couple of days.  We met an older lady named Diane, who we had pegged all wrong, after watching her with her husband all week.  We thought she was high maintenance, but she ended up being super nice.  She talked to us and girls about shells and ended up finding some "jingles" for the girls which her family called "jesus feet" because they look like they have a foot print on the back.

Our last night tradition is for the girls to wear their new Emerald Isle shirts and to go out and get ice cream at the Sweet Spot.  We followed through with this again this year and the girls were excited to pick out a piece of taffy to try while we were there.  When we got back home, Diane had left a note and some shells on our door.  What a nice lady!

We got some good rest, got up packed "Olive" our new name for the Highlander, did one last seashell hunt and said goodbye to the beach.  This year we did not hurry off and actually planned to be at El's Drive In for a final shrimp burger at 10:30 when they opened.  It was delicious and traffic was not bad at all on the way home.  There is nothing worse than leaving the beach after such a good week! :(

Glad we had so many swimsuits for them to wear
