Baby Bunnies

Mrs. Farrah has been trying to prepare the class for the end of the year.  She took them to the big playground and told them they are going to be in the "big kids" class next year.  I've been trying to prep Finley with the change as well.  We will miss Ms. Farrah a ton!

Finley is always in charge at Ms. Farrah's desk.

She has been super excited about trying to ride her scooter this week.

I bought several pairs of goggles to try to prepare for swim lessons, so we had an evening of trying all of them on! I doubt she will end up wearing any of them, but we tried!

Finn and I went for an evening walk in her stroller which we normally don't do, but the timing couldn't have been more perfect.  She begged to go up one more street and I'm glad we did because as we were coming up the hill I saw to small animals in the road and thought they were baby squirrels at first.  After we got closer, I realized they were baby bunnies!

Even though the storm ruined my favorite peonies, these peonies started to bloom on the side of the house.

Our blue jay babies flew the nest this evening.  Unfortunately, we missed them leaving this time.

These two babies were laying in the street and it was 90 degrees - poor things!  I picked them up and found their nest nearby in a bush.  It seemed that the nest was on an incline so the bunnies rolled out of the nest.  I got them back in their nest but they kept kicking off the nest.  I built up some rocks to try to keep them in.

Later that evening I remembered that I read about marking the nest with an X so that you can tell if the mother comes back in the evening so I had my mom watch Finn and I worked on the next.  Unfortunately, the bunnies kicked the X off right away.  It was time for Plan B.  I found a Wildlife Rehabber on the state site and contacted her.  She told me to put flour around the nest and see if the mother returned.

The next morning the bunnies were still there but the flour hadn't been touched.  I collected the bunnies in a shoebox and realized that their bellies felt full.  Luck would have it that the rehabber actually lived one minute away so I had her check them and she said their bellies were definitely full so back to the nest they went.  I built the area up with more rocks and continued to check on them for a week.  They even peaked at me with open eyes a few days later.  Eventually one more they were gone so I am hopeful that they made it!

How sweet were they?!

It was such a great experience for Finley!

Finally a haircut for me!
