Day 2 started off with some much need breakfast for me. It was so nice to be able to eat again! Finley was up multiple times in the night crying. She had a dirty diaper and spit up a bunch of mucus. Jeff attempted to sleep on the not so comfortable loveseat, but neither of us got much sleep at all. I was able to at least take a little nap during the day because I had a terrible headache. I quickly asked Dr. Hoover for an early discharge when he came in to check on me in the morning. He was willing to do just that so we just had to wait for Dr. Hardy to complete Finley's testing and allow her to go home as well. Of course nothing happens quickly in the hospital so it wasn't until almost 3:00 pm that they took her for her hearing screening and other newborn tests. This was at the same time that Jeff had picked Emily up from school to come meet her little sister for the first time. Emily ended up only getting to hold Finley for 5 minutes once she returned from testing, but we were able to get discharged not long after which made it all worth while!
Once we got home the dogs were introduced to Finley and we ordered dinner from Cracker Barrel that my mom picked up for us. As nice as it was to be home, our two nights of no sleep turned into 3 nights. We had to deal with the classic cluster feeding all night of night two as Finley nursed for 5 hours straight through the night. I think I got a total of 6 hours of sleep from Sunday night to Thursday morning. This is also likely why I came down with a respiratory virus of some sort which certainly didn't help anything. I was also blessed with a tremendous amount of swelling in my legs, feet and face after delivery which lasted almost a week. Even with all the discomforts of delivery that sweet face made it all worth while!
