Friday morning started off really early and in a bad way! I woke up a little before 4:00 am dreaming that I had sand in my eye. I guess that was because there really was something in my eye and it hurt! I tried rinsing it in the shower, under the sink, used eye drops, had Jeff look at it with a flashlight, but nothing worked. It was extremely painful and it was making me very anxious. I ended up calling Dr. Cox an opthalmogist in Swansboro and got an appointment for 11:00 am. In addition to being in pain I was not a happy camper because I was messing up everyone else's last day on the beach.
Since we couldn't go out on the beach, we headed over to Wings so the girls could use the $20 each they got between PaPa Stokes and PawPaw. After some debate, they ended up with stuffed dogs that walk on a leash and Emerald Isle t-shirts. From there we headed to the eye doctor, who was really great, but the wait time was crazy. We were there an hour and a half. She had to numb my eye, flip my eyelid inside out and search for what was bothering me. She ended up pulling out what looked like fishing line and three grains of sand. I'm guessing I either got it in my eye Thursday while out in the water or something blew into my eye while we were outside playing games. So crazy, but thankfully it wasn't scratched and I felt much better immediately. The doctor sent me home with some drops and I was on my way.
After lunch, we headed out to the beach for one last afternoon. It was very windy and hot, so we didn't stay out long. We didn't even attempt to put the tent up. I was so nervous about getting something else in my eye with all of the wind that I kept my glasses on and was more than ready to head back up to the house. Hailey didn't enjoy the water much either due to a rug burn that she had on her back from the night before when the girls were dragging each other around the house. I think they learned their lesson!
For dinner Jeff and I had drum and shrimp from Willis's. The girls had leftover fried chicken breast which they called "chicken chest, chicken boobies, etc." We also grabbed extra shrimp and crab cakes to bring home and have with my parents on Saturday. Our plan was to go play miniature golf after dinner, but it decided to storm on us. So instead, we washed clothes, packed and then headed out to the Sweet Spot for some ice cream. We all went to bed already missing the beach!
