It Keeps Changing!

My how much things change in just a couple of days....School is now closed through April 12th at minimum.  I am required to check in once a week with each of my Advisory students through email or phone calls.  We are assigning digital work that is just review or enrichment at this point and none of it will be graded.

The news is on constantly and everything revolves around social distancing (staying at least 6 feet away from people in grocery stores, no social gathering of more than 10 people, etc.), staying at home as much as possible and only going out for essentials, and washing your hands after just about everything!  I feel like I respond to a hundred text messages a day from friends and colleagues.  Everyone is in a state of shock and is trying to figure out what is next.  Some states have put "shelter in place" mandates in place.  This means no one should be leaving their home unless they are going out for something essential like the doctor's office or grocery store.  Most people I know are working from home and everyone has their kids at home doing their best to homeschool and work at the same time.

Jeff heard from some reliable sources that we may go to a shutdown or shelter in place starting Monday, so we made another extensive grocery list and hit the store once again to get things that they were sold out of earlier in the week.  So much uncertainty! We are still waiting on some of our orders from Chewy to arrive - still no dog food or insulin for Marley.  Luckily the vet had one extra vial of insulin.

In addition to all of this, the medical field is already short on masks, protective wear, and ventilators and there are outcries for help getting these supplies.  There is lots of talk about flattening the curve.  There is a point where hospitals will be completely overwhelmed with patients needing ventilators and not enough protective gear when many more people will die.  All of the mandates put in place are to help flatten that curve and give the medical field time to recover and be able to treat fewer patients at a time.

This is especially concerning due to Jeff's job.  I am at home, but he still has to go to work and possibly be confronted with Covid-19.  In fact, he has already had two close calls and there was even talk of his crew having to be quarantined for 14 days somewhere other than home.  That would be awful! I am praying that he does not get it and does not bring it home.  What a nightmare that would be.

On a positive note, Finley has plenty of time to play with the doggy door, look at herself in the mirror, and go for walks! Mama got about 30 minutes to herself to sit in the sun while Finley was napping.  The dogs have been loving this beautiful weather.  We need to soak it in because the next two weeks looks like rain. :(  That is not going to help all these people who are supposed to stay inside with nothing to do.
